“Don’t allow undesirable circumstances to be excuses for you to fail, but allow them to be reasons for you to excel.”

Hi! I am Corey Minor Smith - Attorney, Author, Award-winning Advocate. I can’t wait to share my journey with you.
I have been navigating the mental health space for over 20 years. It's been central to my personal and professional evolution, shaped my perspective, and led me to want to champion for others who are caregivers for those living with severe mental health.
Besides being an attorney, I hold a Master’s degree in Education, Guidance, and Counseling. Plus, I am a trained facilitator of the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI); however, my passion for social justice, especially, in the mental health realm, stems from my turbulent upbringing.
My mother was diagnosed with manic depression (bipolar disorder) and paranoid schizophrenia, and my lived experience with her shaped my path. I’m on a mission to champion for those who face similar circumstances.
In 2019, I self published my now highly celebrated debut book, #Driven, a book virtually drawn from my veins and shaped by my heart, is used as a resource for family and friends that have loved ones living with severe mental illness.
I have had a chance to share my story on national platforms like The Breakfast Club, The Audible Original: We’ve Got Answers, RollingOut, Forbes, and The Karen Hunter Show in addition to various podcasts and news programs. I even made history by becoming the first African-American City Council At-Large member, pushing for social justice.
At the end of the day, I am all about helping people turn their problems into power. With my legal background, a passion for mental health advocacy, and a drive for social justice, I’m here to make the world a more caring and inclusive place.
I currently reside in Washington, D.C. and I am the proud mom to two adult sons - WOW - I still can’t believe it!
