Mental WELLth Wednesday Reflection

Join me in taking a moment to check in with yourself. I invite you to show yourself kindness and create the room you need to recharge. Remember, you matter, your efforts are meaningful and significant. History shows us that many have been unwavering advocates for change. Let’s hold steadfast to our beliefs and our desire to lift each other up. In our own time, we can continue to push ahead—progress is our path, and it's one we can continue to follow.

Here are eight suggestions for prioritizing your mental health after the election:

1. Stay prayerful: In a time when faith has been exploited, maintain your integrity and uphold your values while allowing others to do the same.

2. Focus on your breathing: Stress can lead to improper breathing patterns—short and shallow breaths with an elevated heart rate. Try this breathing exercise: inhale deeply while counting to four, hold for a moment, then exhale slowly as you count to four. Repeat as needed.

3. Reflect on your core values: Take some time to identify what is most important to you and explore how your actions can reflect those principles. This will help you remain stable amidst the chaos.

4. Engage in meaningful discussions: Share your thoughts and feelings about the election with trusted friends, family, and/or a mental health professional. These conversations can promote understanding and foster a sense of community.

5. Educate yourself: Understanding the implications of the election results will equip you to navigate the evolving landscape with assurance. When you are ready, review reliable information to stay up-to-date with current issues.

6. Indulge in self-care: Take care of your mental and emotional health. Engage in activities that bring you happiness, whether it's enjoying nature, listening to your favorite songs, or simply spending some quiet time alone.

7. Build resilience: Remember that change requires time and effort. View challenges as opportunities for personal growth and learning that will enable you to recover and keep moving forward.

8. Stay active: Your contributions matter. Continue to positively impact your community or advocate for causes you care about. Whether through volunteering, promoting policies, or raising awareness, your actions can empower both you and others.

Keep in mind that our journeys will have highs and lows, but our dedication to creating a brighter future is what truly counts. Stay optimistic, stay involved, and trust that our efforts are part of the change we will achieve.
